The Abaco Islands comprise a group of small islands in the Bahamas. Though it may be less popular than the Grand Bahama or New Providence Island, Great Abaco Island's wonderful national parks and natural reserves make it just as much as vacation paradise as the more famous islands. Abaco Islands might be another ideal vacation paradise in Bahamas.

Attracted by the luxuriant vegetation bird lovers will most willing to stay in the Abaco National Park. The park spans 20,500 acres of land, 5,000 of which are covered by the pine forests where the bird likes to live. The park is home to many different species of birds, including the Bahama Parrot. It was founded in 1994 primarily to serve as a protective environment for this endangered species.

There are many other species of birds to be found here. For example, the West Indies Woodpecker, Warblers, doves, and four species of Flycatchers. With so many different species of birds singing and flying around you, just imagine how wonderful the world is? It's not just belong to humans alone, but to other beings as well.

For bird lovers you might want to make a trip to Marsh Harbor. This tranquil resort village is often visited by flocks of loud and colorful tropical birds. Pretty sure you'll not regret coming here. Don't forget to visit the Loyalist Memorial Sculpture Garden, birds are also frequent guests here. So if you are a history buff in addition to a birdwatcher, you are in for a double pleasure. Whether a double pleasure or not your trip to Abaco Islands is a fruitful one.

Another place worth mentioning is the Pelican Cays National Park. Known as an underwater reserve comprises many different species of marine life. With a total area of approximately 2,000 acres and comprising a large number of underground caves, coral reefs, miniature islands and small bays, it is a paradise to visit. Divers will enjoy the beauty of this park all day long.

If you're tired of relatively big park, you might like to visit Fowl Cay in Hope Town. This is another smaller nature reserve of particular interest to those who like diving and snorkeling. Another activity suitable in this surrounding is boating tours. It's available for charter, so you'll have the chance to sail in this superb setting.

It is obvious that the Bahamian government takes nature preservation quite seriously. There seems an gradual increase in protecting the environment and also making sure that the activities offered to the tourists are not harmful to the environment. The efforts have prevented the extinction of some endangered species and also enhance the eco-friendliness of the tourist industry here.

As a result of careful planning and organization from the government, Abaco Islands became a true paradise for the visitor in Bahamas.
