Magnificent Adirondack furniture is simply like no other and only those who have had the pleasure of relaxing in a chair or lounger made in this unique style truly understand why. The tradition of this particular style of outdoor furniture began in the Adirondack mountains themselves over 100 years ago. To be certain, magnificent Adirondack furniture is one-hundred percent American and it was created at a time when the nation was first beginning to mature into a world power.

Vacationers have always loved upstate New York which is home to the Adirondack mountains. Many families have had vacation homes and cottages in the area for generations as the place just seems to have been created for the sole purpose of rest, relaxation, and lounging around on a premium set of outdoor furniture enjoying the company of friends and family. A lodge owner from the area created the first Adirondack furniture piece in 1903 because he wanted to provide his guests with a comfortable outdoor piece of furniture that would be better suited to the steep grade and incline inherent to the mountains.

The trademark angled back of beautiful Adirondack furniture was born out of a need for chairs and loungers that could provide relaxation despite the steep incline of the mountains. Previously, guests would find themselves leaning forward in chairs or loungers making it very uncomfortable to simply relax and enjoy the scenery. In addition, the wide armrests found on traditional Adirondack furniture were included so that people would not need to set their drinks upon the ground. Tables were impractical in the Adirondack mountains and the wide armrests helped to make the entire outdoor experience more enjoyable.

Today, of course, you don’t need to travel all the way to the mountains in order to enjoy lounging on a set of premium Adirondack furniture. While some of the more modern sets are made from resilient recycled plastic, it is traditional for Adirondack chairs to be made out of slats of wood. Now you might not think that wood would be very comfortable to sit upon but the furniture is deceptively relaxing. However, you can always buy a chair cushion to sit upon—but be warned—this might just make Adirondack furniture a little too comfortable so be prepared for frequent napping!! Despite its appearance, all you need to do is relax upon an Adirondack chair or lounger to understand the universal truth about this amazing furniture style—once you go Adirondack, you won’t go back!
