Bahamas vacation is still the best choice for those who want to escape from the world's tumult. Cat Island will welcome you with its beautiful quiet beaches, as well as many different possibilities to have fun and relax.

Whether you love history or not, a short exploration will always enrich tourist's knowledge on Cat Island or to see places and objects you've only read about.

You can reach the highest point in Bahamas by following the steps of Father Jerome to the top of Mt. Alvernia and visit the Hermitage. Built in 1901 by the hands of Father Jerome, the Hermitage monastery is one of the oldest buildings on the island. But the journey is just as beautiful as the destination, taking you through picturesque villages and a wonderful flora. So you won't be bored along the way.

Among the historical landmark you won't want to miss are the Arawak cave at Columbus point, the cotton plantation ruins, Ambrister plantation ruins in the vicinity of Port Howe, and also the Deveaux Mansion.

But Cat Island is more than just a historical place. Water sports are also available at the Cat Island Dive Center. You can choose from the variety of water recreation packages and start enjoying the exploration of the marine life and enthralling geological formations. If you don't want to join the activities organized by the Dive Center, you can just rent water sport equipment here and enjoy your own exploration.

Tourists need not have to worry about privacy on Cat Island. You'll always be able to find a quiet place for your beach activities since the beaches are long enough.

Have a delightful meal on Cat Island after all the exploration. Come to Hawk's Nest Resort and Marina if you want to try fresh grilled fish or the roasted rack of lamb. For local specialties go to Fernandez Bay Village, foods are served in the dining room or on a patio. Discerning bread connoisseurs must also try Greenwood Beach Resort's cuisine.

Vacation on Cat Island will surely bring you peace and relaxation. Cat Island is much smaller in population than some of the other bigger islands in Bahamas which means you'll be able to enjoy its natural beauty more, as well as to come closer to understanding the local customs and way of life. You feel more like an explorer than a tourist. So don't forget to include Cat Island in your next Bahamas vacation.
