Texas Hold'em is taking over card tables everywhere. It's a card game that has interested women, men, young people, older people, business people and almost every western demographic you can think of. It is played in casinos, on television, over the Internet, in garages, basements, and more. It has attracted more young people than ever before into casinos and retailers across America are selling poker sets and tables by the thousands in the blink of an eye.

Although it seems to have arrived on the poker scene in the last few years, it is actually a game that has been played for nearly 100 years. There is no definitive history on the game Texas Hold'em, but legend has it that this version of poker was played for the first time in Robstown, Texas in the early 1900's. It was then played in Dallas, Texas in 1925 and finally introduced to Las Vegas by a group of Texas gamblers and card players.

The game itself can be played by up to 22 players, although it is generally played with anywhere from 2 to 10 people. The objective of the game is to win the pots, the money placed in the center of the table for betting purposes during a hand. Players can win the pot by either forming the best five-card poker hand or by betting to cause the other players to fold.

When the game is played, each player is dealt two cards. Then five community cards are placed in the centre of the table - three during the first betting round called the flop; one during the second betting round called the turn; and one the third betting round called the river. The players must form the best five-card poker hand out of the seven cards available to them.

Although the game remained dormant on card tables for many years, it resurfaced in the last ten with the growing popularity of watching Texas Hold'em poker on television and with the availability of online poker on the Internet. This recent advent makes Texas Hold'em the most popular of the community card poker games and the most commonly played poker game in many casinos in the United States. Its no-limit betting is even used in the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour.

Interest in Texas Hold'em has recently slowed down. Retailers admit sales have slowed for novelty poker sets and tables and the number of people lining up at casino doors for hold'em tournaments has stabilized. In spite of this, interest remains strong, especially because of the regular men and women who have made big bucks gaining entry into top poker tournaments, playing Texas Hold'em against the professionals and winning. Interest also remains for the celebrity hold'em tournaments on television and people continue to supplement their incomes by playing multiple poker tables online.

The game has a 100 year history, relatively short as far as games go. What remains to be seen is what the future holds for this exciting and popular card game.
