Felton Thompkins

I’ll begin this the only way I know how to begin, and that’s with the question, “What is a prospering soul?” In society today we hear expressions such as, “God bless his/her soul”, or “oh, my soul”, and “God rest his/her soul”, just to name a few. These are expressions that we all have taken for granted or we simply don’t know the fullness of what has been said.

When we use the expression “God bless his/her soul” we are saying that we desire God to empower the person in a way that only He can. We are asking that God will grant them a sound mind, a mind that is able to reason well, make good choices, and we are asking that God would give them the emotional stability to find peace in whatever they may be facing.

Let us get an understanding of what the soul consists of:

First - The Mind or we could call this one’s “thinker”.

Second - The Will or we could say the region of the soul where choices are made or the “chooser”.

Third - Emotions or we could call this the “feeler”.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3rd John:2 (KJV).

Is your soul prospering? I have come to believe and understand that in order for the soul to prosper one must be willing to walk in and adhere to the truth. A man asked this question a little over two thousand years ago. “What is truth”? I truly hope the man learned that he was talking to The Truth. You see contrary to popular opinion, there is only one truth, and if you truly search you will know The Truth, and He will make you free!

I don’t know about you, but I have sought out prosperity in and from a lot of different things in this life - be it jobs, relationships, business ventures, beliefs, etc. The one thing that I have found to remain constant in all, is the love and God and the faithfulness of His Word. Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness... Ps 143:8 For ever, O Lord thy word is settled in heaven. Ps 119:89

Settled! I like that word more and more when it comes to the truth. Now I realize that to some of you who might be reading this, our thoughts and beliefs on what truth is may differ, but that’s the beauty of a free society. We are able to be different and believe it or not, it is our differences that make America the great country that it is, and our differences that provoke us to think.

I’ll leave you with these thoughts to ponder concerning your soul. Are you getting the right information, is it really true? Are your choices based on the truth or are you making emotional decisions? Emotions can’t tell the difference between a lie and the truth. A prospering soul is one that walks in and adheres to truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3rd John 4 (KJV)
