Flower plants should be planted at the proper time in order to harness their complete beauty. The pattern followed for a garden must be such that when a group of plants begin to fade, another group of plants must start blossoming and maintain the overall beauty of the garden. In general, about one-third of the total number of plants present in a garden should blossom at different time of the year as compared to the other plants.

There are two basic points that every person planning to develop his garden must be aware of. Firstly, he must know what type of plants can achieve good growth in the type of soil present in his area. Secondly, he must know at what type of the year these plants must be planted for them to achieve complete growth and make the garden look beautiful.

There are two ways to achieve this type of information. The first method is to look over the internet. There are a number of websites on the internet which provide data regarding the type of soil required for a plant to grow properly and also the time of the year during which it should be planted. The second method is to find various books which state these facts and figures. This includes going through the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map. This map divides the country into eleven climatic zones, states the minimum temperature for each zone and states which plants will survive in each zone.

There is a third method which can be followed easily. If you have a plant nursery near your house or area, go and visit it. All nurseries have their own guides which can tell you what type of climatic conditions are necessary for each type of plant to grow and thrive.

Only a specific variety of the same flower plant may survive in a particular zone. If you think all varieties will survive in your area, you will lose you plant because it may not be good enough to survive the vagaries of climate in that region. Consider rose plants for an example. You must choose the particular variety of rose which can grow and flourish in your climatic zone. Consider that you plant a rose flower of some other variety and provide it additional care than required, but even then your rose plant will not survive. Hence, it is important to buy plants that thrive in that specific climatic zone.
