Sunrooms are a wonderful addition to any home. Most homeowners consider building a sunroom because they want to enjoy some time in the sun without having to go outdoors. With a sunroom, you can get pleasure from the sunlight and enjoy the warmth provided without being exposed to the drawbacks of the outdoors such as winds, pollen, insects and other pests.

Sunrooms require a lot of planning. Before you make any major decisions, it’s important for you to consider how you are going to use the room. You may want to add a sun room to your living room or kitchen, or you may want to install a hot tub or create a solarium for your plants. Either way, the construction requirements will differ depending on the exact use you are intending on.

The two most common types of sunrooms include a 3 season sunroom and a 4 season sunroom. Four season sunrooms are basically sunrooms that can be used during every season. The type of sunroom that you select will depend on several factors. Your budget is one of the most important determining factors. The price of a sunroom is determined by its location, its size, the type of glass used, and additional options such as the number of windows and the number of doors. Keep these variables in mind before making any decisions.

If you plan on using your sunroom all year round then you will probably want to invest in an all season or 4 season sunroom. However, if you only plan to use your sunroom during certain seasons or only for special events then you might find that a 3 season sunroom would work better for you. Keep in mind, 3 season sunrooms are less expensive then 4 season sunrooms. They cost less because they do not require that you hook into your home’s heating and cooling system.

Once you decide which type of sunroom will suit you best, you can start to consider additional elements of your sunroom. For starters you can consider adding skylights. Skylights bring additional sunlight into the room and create an open, airy feeling. If you want to take it one step further you may want to consider enclosing the entire room with glass to get the best sun exposure. Unfortunately, fully enclosed glass sunrooms are an expensive option. Also, hardware stores don’t typically carry the type of double-pane tempered glass needed.
