Long term goals cover the span of many years. You may want to set a long term career goal that states where you want to be five years from now. Additionally, try to make all of your short term goals lead up to your long term goal. This way you can see yourself making progress over time.

Sure, you can get by without setting any goals for your career, but why would you want to do this?
