Basement flooding is no laughing matter. Maybe it’s the middle of the night and your woke up by the sound of thunder and lightning along with pouring rain. You’ve got a funny feeling and decide to get up and check on your basement. You get down there and it looks like you’ve got your own indoor swimming pool. Now what do you do?

How to dry flooded basements:

First off, if you have any important items stored down there, get it out of there and up to the main part of the house as fast as you can. If you have electrical outlets you need to turn off power to the basement as well. Also remove any electrical equipment or appliances if possible to prevent further damage.

Next it’s time to break out the wet/dry vac. If you don’t have one, then break out your mop, a bucket and as many towels as you can find. Get up as much of the water as possible as soon as you can. The damper your basement is the more you run the risk of creating a breading ground for mold, mildew and even bugs.

So, how do you keep from repeating this scenario every time it rains? Figure out where the water is coming from and implement a solution to stop it. Water could be getting in where the walls and floor meet, could be seeping in through the walls, or even coming in through cracks in your foundation.

Dealing with a flooded basement takes time and can cost money. Waterproofing can save you both the time and the money. There are different methods for dealing with each of these problems, and yeah, you might have more than one issue allowing water in your basement. A qualified waterproofing contractor can inspect your home and help you make the best decision for your basement so you can sleep easily at night, even on the rainy ones.
