There are a variety of ways in which you can teach your children to count.

· Use pennies to help your child to count. (Of course, this can be a choking hazard, so, if your child is very young, use Cheerios instead.) ;)

· Use paper with crayon, and write the numbers on separate sheets.

· Purchase a Leap Frog product which offers singing as a way for your child to count from 1 to 20.

· Use a variety of books which teach children to count.

· If you have stairs in your home, count them with your child as you go up and down.

· If you are exercising using weights or simply engaging in push-ups, have your child near you and count while you are exercising.

While we know that some public school children are lacking in mathematical skills, it important we become involved in beginning the process to teach children to count from a very early age. With a wide variety of tools available today, from books to educational and interactive products, it is becoming clear that the earlier a child is taught to count, the better off he or she will be later on.

We know, and statistics have proven, that babies learn more at an early age because they have the ability to soak up so much information. Beginning the counting process as early as possible and using whatever creative means necessary, can only help your child to achieve by creating an inducement for them to want to learn.

Counting can be a fun and enjoyable daily routine in your home. Include family members and siblings to help out. The process of learning has taken on new meaning. More educational institutions are producing learning tools and software to help children achieve. But as you know, it is so important to begin at a very young age. While it is true we did not have near the amount of educational tools at our disposal, children are more fortunate today because everyone is focused on teaching them to learn and retain what they have learned as they progress through each grade level.

Perhaps these tips to get your child counting to 20 can be added to your existing list of creative methods. While there is so much more which can be done, the bottom line is it all begins with the number 1. Figuratively and literally, your child is number one and the road to educational freedom rests with you at the starting gate.
