Keeping your pet safe is the number one goal for all pet owners. Here is simple plan to keep your pet happy and healthy. Typically there are only 3 hazard areas in your home that you have direct control over. These areas of concern are food, containment and pests. In this article, we will show what your pet should avoid in order to live long and prosper.

Harmful Food:

Believe it or not, there are quite a lot of foods that we eat that is harmful to your pet. The most notorious culprit would be chocolate. Chocolate can be extremely harmful to your dog and can even result in serious heart problems and death. It is also important to keep your pet away from things like garlic and onions as these foods can do serious damage to a dogs’ liver. Mushrooms have also been shown to cause significant internal injuries. So be careful the next time you cook because your pooch may lick up spilled food before you can get to it.

Pet Containment:

When your pet is not adequately contained there can be several problems. The most dangerous situation to avoid is cars, especially if you have a primarily inside dog or a dog that likes to chase cars. Often time an inside dog isn’t fully aware of the consequences of a car; they just have not been around them long enough. On the other hand, a dog that chases cars increases the likely hood of getting run over 10 fold. The most affordable solution for this problem is an invisible fence. You could also purchase a expensive above ground fence or consistently have your pet on a leash.

Fleas and Ticks:

Fleas and ticks are much more than tiny, little pests. These insects can also cause skin infections or Lymes Disease that affects the health and the appearance of your cat or dog. Lymes disease, normally carried by deer ticks, can be a deadly disease and requires serious attention. Untreated flea infestation can lead to serious skin problems and cause your pet hours of pain. Luckily, these pests are fairly easy to treat and only require monthly applications of medicine.

Keeping your pet safe is pretty easy work if you take the right precautions. If you follow our guidelines you should be able to keep your dog or cat out of harms way. It is important not to neglect these main areas of protection as your pet has certain parental needs. Keep your pet healthy and they will reward you with years of unconditional love.
