Writing The Resource Box So It Makes People Click

With the Internet the oft-mentioned "information highway," it should come as no surprise that that's what people most go to the Internet for: information. They might be shopping, gaming, or simply doing some research. Whatever their purpose, though, they want their time spent to be beneficial to them.

In recent years, people have learned the benefits of search engine optimization. As search engine optimization has taken off, many web sites have utilized articles to increase traffic to their sites. Some even have created sites devoted entirely to providing articles to be read by web site visitors; these articles contain links leading to other sites related topics and subjects in the articles.

For instance, some sites may feature many articles about topics specific to that site. As visitors read the article whose information they came looking for, the end of the article might contain a resource box that the reader can click on to access the author's web site. The author's web site often sells a product or service related to the article. For example, if the author is talking about rotating tires in his article, the reader can then click on the link to his web site, which might sell tires or car parts, or provide other related automobile industry services.

You'll usually find the resource box at the end of the article. The resource box contains the name of the author and a brief biography, a description of the sponsoring site and a link to the author's web site. If the reader likes what he or she has read in the article, s/he may want to click on the link and find out more about the author. In this way, traffic is driven to the author's web site.

Like the article itself, the resource box should be well written enough to be interesting to the reader. Although it only takes a little bit of space, it has to have the right content in order to encourage the reader to go to your site.

Simply put, the benefit of having a good resource box is that it will drive traffic to your site. Now, of course, placing your articles on other sites is beneficial, because it increases exposure to your site. Many webmasters like having articles to place on web sites because it gives them content and, if your relationship is set up that way, they may also have an affiliate relationship with you that they can also profit from. For you, the benefit is that when readers read your article, they are then encouraged to visit your web site and thus this generates more traffic to your site.

In regard to content for your resource box, you should focus on keywords. The keywords should be those that you know people will be using when they're looking for the information they originally set out to find. If done right, your keywords will drive them to your article and thus your resource box, again, encouraging traffic to your site and perhaps sales as well if you sell products or services.

Because resource boxes are so limited in space, you should be as creative as you can with their content. Simple eye-catching phrases that entice the reader to click on your link are what you're focusing on.

Finally, make sure to use keywords related to your site. It is never a good idea to mislead your customers by using keywords that have nothing to do with your content, product or service. Although using very popular keywords may drive traffic to your site in the short term, in the long term, this will be only detrimental to you, since search engines will drop it from their page rankings and ultimately, your customers will quit visiting. If you can't be trusted, they will also not buy products from you even if you sell something that would fit their needs.

Make sure that you don't underestimate the power your resource box has. It's small, but it can have great influence in encouraging visitors to visit your site. Make it an enticing and eye-catching resource box, but never oversell your customers with it. Writing a good a resource box could make all the difference in how many people click your link and are directed to your site.
