Bad breath also known as halitosis is a condition that effects over 90 million americans. Most people go about their lives unaware of a problem with their breath and even if somebody is kind enough to let them know, most people don't really understand what the real cause of bad breath is. Let's take a look at some of the possible places the bad breath could be coming from in your body.

About 95% of the time bad breath causes will originate from inside your oral cavity, but in some rare occasions it may be attributed to a medical condition such as a problem with your stomach. Some of these bad breath symptoms can be relieved from the use of over the counter nonprescription remedies, but you have to make sure you pick the right ones. Some of them will just mask your breath and not attack the cause of it.

Another way you can find the cause of bad breath is to make regular trips to your dentist. With the proper dental hygiene, you can take care of a majority of the bad breath problems by brushing your teeth, scraping your tongue, and flossing on a daily basis. Again you want to make sure that you choose the right oral care products that will effectively eliminate bacteria that is the cause of bad breath.

You have to also watch your diet if you want to limit the amount of bacteria in your mouth that can cause bad breath. Try to cut back on acidic foods that can make your mouth have sour and bitter tastes. Sometimes stress or hormonal changes can effect the way your breath smells.

Before you look for the best treatment for your breath you should always consult a physician or a dentist to rule out any possible medical conditions. Once you are sure of your problem being located in your mouth, you can then take the right course of action to eliminate your bad breath for good.

Just remember that everybody has bad breath at one time or another. Nobody is immune from eating certain foods and not getting bad breath. When it comes down to finding the cause of bad breath you can be certain that you have bacteria in your mouth or throat that is producing the odor. With a little extra oral hygiene and the right bad breath treatment, you can be on your way to fresh breath everyday.
