Sealing door is one of the most popular methods for home owners to protect water or dust leaking into the house. Another main purposes of door sealing is to prevent small insects sneak into the house but however, it rarely seen to see home owner seal the door for only one purpose but mostly door sealing is to prevent water leak into the house, especially in rainy season.

Generally, when we talk about sealing to prevent rain leak into the house, we usually think about sealing both door and windows but people tend to pay attention to sealing the door first. This is because doors have less part that moving than windows so this makes doors are much easier to seal so people seem to seal doors as a first priority. The most equipment that most of home owners use for door sealing is weather stripping, because it is very convenient and require no binding and also effective in terms of fill out the gap around the door before you start to work. Weather stripping can be used with both doors sealing and windows sealing.

There are several types (material that they are made from) of weather strip available, including bronze or plastic V-shape type. Especially V-shape type is very effective of sealing both top and side of doors and windows. However, the most difficult part of door and window sealing is the bottom side, especially the part that has heavy foot traffic. Even though you are using standard type of weather striping (such as metal strips) would become expire very quickly under heavy foot traffic condition. Therefore the solution of this problem may be you have to change type of door sealing part, particularly for the bottom side of doors to use another kind of material such as door sweeps, door shoes, and thresholds.

A door sweep is the material that stick to the bottom side of the door sweep has rubber gasket, which will drag along the floor function like seal to protect water to leak inside, Mean while a door shoe is a flexible gasket (usually made from rubber like door sweep). A metal threshold with a rubber gasket is the type that presses against the bottom of the door. However, all kind of door seals can be used in both single type and combination. For example, if the house owner knows that there is a larger gap between floor and bottom edge of the door. They may use both door shoe and a threshold to create a seal. However, some people may experience problem about windows and door still have small gaps even though they have use weather stripping. This gap allows copious flow of air through gaps between the rough opening and the window or door.

There's no doubt that the topic of door sealing can be fascinating and sometimes confusing for home owner who has no experience. If you still have unanswered questions about it, you may find what you're looking for by keep learning and asking experts but the detail mentioned above would be fundamental.
