When Alexander the Great and his huge army had conquered much of the known world of the day he looked around and wept. “There are no more worlds to conquer,” he said. We may view this as an enviable position, to have won all our battles and have no more to face. But in this day and age it may seem like a situation we’ll never experience. Battles sometimes face us everywhere, but without a plan for facing them it seems unlikely we will find much success. This article will explore a few simple plans which might help you conquer your own worlds.

It is a well documented truth that when you keep your face to the sun, the shadows will all fall behind you. What does that teach us about life? Perhaps it is as simple as facing your problems head on. Conversely, if you turn your back to the sun, all you will see is shadows. Either method is a choice each of us can consciously make when dealing with life’s problems. Many people choose to turn their backs to a problem, or at least not take a realistic view of it, and see everything in a negative light. Others seek to understand the truth about a problem, to stare it in the face and fully understand it; these are like the people who turn to face the sun and leave the shadows of doubt, fear and failure behind.

If you can face and finally be rid of your problems, you will finally experience the freedom which ultimately leads you to true success.

Here is a simple three step process to help you face your problems straight on:

1. Analyze each situation with a calm and cool head. Turn it inside out and explore its true nature. Don’t give into an emotional reaction.

2. Understand that many problems could have been worse. Be thankful for the things that didn’t happen and embrace any good you can find in a difficult situation.

3. Be patient in finding the good within a situation, it may not appear right away. Sometimes the good is revealed in a flash and other times it will appear more gradually. It could even appear years down the line.

Perhaps if you learn to face all of your problems and eliminate them one by one, some day you will find yourself in a position to echo Alexander’s famous lament.
