If you are the owner of a blog, you will definitely want to subscribe to your own blog through MyYahoo to help you get noticed by the search engines. If you’re interested in a variety of blogs, using MyYahoo is a convenient way to manage them and read only the articles you are interested in without having to jump from site to site. Plus, it’s easier than subscribing and having to deal with all kind of emails and newsletters and such. You can prioritize them how you like and only read the headlines that interest you and delete the ones you know you’ll never read.

Here are the steps:

1.) You will need to copy the blog’s RSS feed link to later enter into MyYahoo.

RSS is short for Rich Site Summary and it is a format for sharing content among different websites on the Internet. For example, if you look at the sidebar on my blog you will see the section “Syndicate This Blog” which is where my feeds are. The third one down is the RSS feed you would need to copy. Right click on Entries RSS 2.0 and go down to properties. Highlight and copy the URL. In my case it is:
http://nathangurley.com/rss2.aspx This blog is hosted on GoDaddy so this is what their links look like.

On http://Blogger.com the Site Feed URLS supposedly end in /atom.xml . Personally, when I was starting I had one on GoDaddy and one on Blogger. I could not find the site feed URL on Blogger and it’s not like you can call Google for help. For 2 or 3 bucks a month, it’s easier to use GoDaddy because you can call and talk to a real person. Just my opinion – you get what you pay for. Blogger is free, good luck.

2.) Go to or create a MyYahoo account and login.

3.) Go all the way down to the bottom of that landing page and look for an “Add Content” link. It is a tiny blue box with a white plus sign in front of add content.

4.) On that page you will see a “Find Content” search box. DO NOT put the RSS Site feed link in that box. It won’t do anything, but it will tie up your computer a bit.

5.) To the right of the Find Button, you will see the link you need. Click on “Add RSS by URL which is where you need to be. The links are tiny and there is another one right below it explaining RSS so be sure you are on the top link.

6.) Enter the Site Feed URL from step one into the box that says:
“Add RSS by URL” and click add.

7.) When Yahoo finds the site, you will see a box on the right that says
“Add To My Yahoo!

If the URL is good, the blog will be added to the bottom of your MyYahoo Page.
