Have you ever seen those television commercials that are essentially mini-movies? They can’t play the entire production so they cut it off at a cliffhanger and display a computer graphic with a web site name and an encouragement to come by and see what happens next. The curious will visit.

Children’s toys and cereals will also include website information in their television ads encouraging kids to drop by and discover a whole world of fun waiting for them.

Even fishing shows will present website information so anglers can get the latest information on lures that will potentially bring in the ‘catch of a lifetime’.

You hear and read website addresses in all forms of media.

Have you ever wondered why businesses are so intentional about promoting their website?

The short answer is traffic building? The slightly longer answer is a website can be the best non-intrusive, yet highly interactive way for customers to get the best impression of your business.

There was a time when businesses looked at a website as simply a novel approach to displaying a cyber business card. It may have been attractive, but certainly wasn’t something visitors felt compelled to go back to.

Today businesses are creating an interactive cyber empire that goes a long way to developing a specific web brand. Information does not remain static on these sites and knowledge-based content can be informative, entertaining and the stuff of link forwards.

Many websites develop a sense of community to further enhance the experience of a web site visit.

Why is traffic building important?

As businesses developed complimentary cyber stores, the need for a positive experience became an important component to website design. Online business desired repeat customers and a reason for newbies to consider your site a worthy destination.

Foot traffic is important for any brick and mortar store. The same is true of online business. Creating an environment that is comfortable, entertaining or informative is a good step in welcoming cyber foot traffic, none of this means much if you haven’t implemented solid Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies.

If you don’t start with both a solid SEO strategy along with a solid web design then you are operating from a point of weakness.

If you are wanting to develop traffic building measures into an existing business site make sure to evaluate your website to see if its worth more than one visit and then make sure you’ve helped search engines find you and rank you as highly as possible.

Traffic building begins with a good plan and an eye on present and future goals.

Build it, promote it, sell the ideas, promote it, create good content, promote it, enhance SEO strategies, promote it, and the chances of increased visitation improves.
