Equally as important as their experience and competence is their personality – you do not want a Wedding Planner who is full of whacky and off the wall ideas if you and your partner a the quiet, sensible types. It is very important that you get on with your Wedding Planner because you will need to sit down together and discuss the details of the wedding. Make sure your Wedding Planner listens to you and takes on board your ideas and wishes, after all, it is your wedding. Consider whether you feel comfortable having all the organization over to someone else – if you are not, maybe a wedding planner is not for you. Make sure that you have regular meetings with your Wedding Planner and get frequent updates on how the arrangements are progressing.

There are important considerations when hiring your Wedding Planner. You would obviously want to take up references from previous clients, but you should also check whether your wedding planner has worked on weddings of similar size. You could get a Wedding Planner who is brilliant at organizing small weddings with no more than 50 guests, but would be totally overwhelmed if you are planning to have 150. If he or she has already worked on several big weddings with great success they should be able to cope with your wedding.

Another important point is to check whether your chosen Wedding Planner works alone or as part of a team. Supposing you hire a lone Wedding Planner and they become ill a couple of days before the wedding. Will there be any back-up in case of this happening? If they work as a team there will always be cover if someone is ill. You might want to test whether your Wedding Planner is good at problem solving by giving him outlines of possible problems that may occur and to ask him how he would solve this. This will indicate whether he or she has had experience of problem solving and whether they are good at thinking on their feet. You will also be able to see whether they can be calm in a crisis. We all hope that nothing will go wrong on the day, but it is best to be prepared for snags and be confident in the knowledge your wedding planner has it covered.
