Starting puppy training early will help prevent unwanted behaviorally problems from developing. It's not reasonable to think that your puppy would act just as an adult dog would. Just as children and adults differ in their behavior, so do dogs and puppies.

Hold off on the heavier stuff like "Heel", "Stay", and "Fetch" etc. until your puppy at least reaches the 3-month mark. In particular, at around 2 months, one should start getting their dog to behave more sociable. You can start training your new puppy the moment you get them home, but keep it light. However, it is best to get stuck in and start training your little pooch as soon as possible.

It's up to us, as humans to help our puppies to understand our language, but you'll provably find that it's our tone of voice more so then the words they react to. Each puppy is unique and probably the best person to greatly understand a puppy's mannerism is its owner.

A socially well-grounded dog will better deal with other dogs and people. The main thing to bear in mind when teaching your puppy how to behave in public and ever changing circumstances, is to keep the mode positive and fun, this way your dog will be happy to try new experiences and won't let fear hold it back. Experts reveal that it's in your puppy's first 8 weeks that critical behavior and obedience development take place. It is vital to carry out basic puppy obedience training early on.

5 or 10 minutes a day may not seem like much, but it will go a long way in building your puppy's character. The amount of attention your puppy can give any one thing, depends on the age, breed and maturity of your puppy, so it's best to keep the training sessions under 10 minutes till your puppy gets the hang of things. Understanding your puppy's personality will present you with greater opportunities to tackle training exercises.

Be reasonable about your dog's abilities at this stage and don't hope for too much - tuff it out till your puppy is at least 24 weeks old, where you can then expect to see some improvement in your puppy's understanding of your commands. Remember, no two pups are alike, each has it's own personality therefore; you'll need to adapt your training techniques to each individual pup.
