The thought of dating again after losing a loved one is very difficult and sometimes it can take a person several years before they can even consider it. The thought of dating again is hard because there are a lot of emotions involved and it may take many years before a person can recover enough from the loss of their loved one to go out on one date. Before they do, they think they must heal completely emotionally.

Getting over the death of a loved one will often require long term counseling. The thought of dating someone else will be a very sad thought and much too painful to consider replacing them with someone else. The though of dating might scare many widowers and some might experience stress at a very high level. This type of stress has been known to cause heart attacks and stroke.

While the widower may not want to spend the rest of their life alone, they also think about the one they lost and think that nobody can replace them. Getting into a bad relationship would not be good for them and if they date someone younger than they are then they will probably think that it will look out of place or stupid to others in the widower's age group.

Often in widower dating circles, there are children involved that just lost a parent. The children might have a definite attitude about their parent dating and that feeling will be negative. There are many different reasons for these feelings. They might fear losing the only parent they have if they are out of their sight for very long. Some kids might not understand that dating does not mean that you are trying to replace the parent that is lost.

Widow dating can make some children jealous and feel like they are not being given the amount of love that they deserve. They might feel that the love they need is being given to someone else that they feel does not deserve it. Some widowers think that some women date them for their life savings. The doubts in the widower dating process go full circle and will continue to exist until the widower gets some counseling to handle all of the doubts.

Sometimes a widower will start dating too soon after losing someone. Perhaps they miss the meals being on the table at a certain time, or miss taking long walks after dinner and hearing some stimulating conversation. Many widowers miss holding hands and sitting on the porch and they just need somebody in their life to fill in the empty spots. Whatever the reason that the widower is dating, they can tell deep down inside them that it is too early to be going out and many will feel lost for some time.
