When choosing and designing promotional keyrings, the same basic concepts hold true as for designing any other piece of advertising. Promotional items make statements about your company image, so it’s important to choose items that reflect what you want to say about your business. This is just as important for small items such as keyrings as it is for full-scale television advertising campaigns — each and every piece of advertising that you distribute should be appropriate for the image you want to convey. Fortunately, this is a much simpler task when it comes to promotional items such as printed keyrings, thanks to the enormous variety of styles, colors and shapes there are to choose from.

The first task will usually be setting your budget. The amount of money you have to spend will often be a factor in determining the type of material your keyrings will be made from, as well as other considerations such as how many keyrings you can afford to buy. In general, it’s a good idea to get the best quality items you can afford, however if your keyrings are for use at promotional events such as trade shows, you’ll usually want to go for quantity over quality, to ensure that you don’t run out of items. When it comes to shape, you’ve definitely got plenty of options in plastic. Most metal and leather keyrings are more limited in terms of shape, but there are still some very stylish designs available. Plastic shapes include square and circular tags, ribbon-style keyrings, and pre-cut shapes of phones, vans, houses and more. If you don’t find a shape that suits you, it’s even possible to have a shaped plastic keyring custom made to your specifications.

With these decisions made, the next step is to choose keyring colors and designs. It’s a good idea to choose keyring colors that pick up on any company colors you already have, or color themes that complement existing your advertising. There is quite a bit of variation of print area between different types of keyring, and some even include the option to add printed designs to both sides of a tag. When creating the design for your keyring, keep in mind the amount of print space you have to work with, and make sure your design will fit comfortably.
