Japanese style gardens can look really nice and welcoming, though always remember to keep it simple.

Creating the right look for your home is never truly complete without the perfect garden. You can make your home look extremely elegant and welcoming on the inside, but if the outside isn’t inviting too, then it tends to let the whole look down.

However, not many people are clued up with garden landscaping and so that is why they leave their gardens to overgrow. It doesn’t have to be complicated though and one particularly good, stylish form of landscaping is Japanese garden landscaping.

Using a Japanese Theme in Your Home

Japanese landscaping can really make any garden look like a tranquil and restful place. It is all about creating a look which is visually pleasing and one of the best things is that it lets you have plenty of space, without making that space look empty.

The reason the Japanese prefer to have such visually appealing gardens, is because the population is so large there that they need their own piece of heaven to just forget about everything and focus on themselves. Now usually a Japanese garden will consist of various types of flowers and greenery, stones and water. One particular good thing which Japanese landscaping is good for is making it seem like there are many different private areas in just one space.

One of the main things to remember before you start creating a Japanese style garden is that you should never make anything look symmetrical. The Japanese are at one with nature and in nature you will notice that nothing is symmetrical. So you do not have to worry too much about the positioning of stones or greenery for example. Also, you are aiming to create a nice, open, tranquil space and that means that you do not want to over crowd the garden.

Plants are a big part of Japanese gardens and so you should use plenty of flowers and trees wherever possible. Blooming flowers are used sparingly, but the ones which are used tend to be spectacular. Some specific types of plants and trees you should purchase for a Japanese style garden include:

• Cheery trees
• Chrysanthemums
• Peonies
• Azaleas

Each of the above will give a nice, oriental style feel to the garden and complete your Japanese theme.

Water is also a main feature within a Japanese garden and so a nice pond with some koi fish in it would look particularly good. If that sounds too much like hard work, then why not consider a water feature?

Overall, a Japanese style garden can look really good, you just have to remember to keep it simple and do not overcrowd it.
