Educational institutions are dotted all over the city. A number of elementary schools and middle schools can be found in the area. There are also 4 universities and colleges in the city of Redding. These include the Simpson University, the National University, the Shasta College and the Shasta Bible College and Graduate School.

The economy in the city of Redding is centered around several industries, namely tourism, legal, medical and retail. Of these, retail is the one that is growing most rapidly. In recent years, Redding has been trying to provide more industrial jobs to their residents.

A recent report revealed that among all the metropolitan areas in the state of California, The city of Redding was one of the most affordable places for real estate.
