When it comes to home organization, everything has it’s place. It’s so easy to fall victim to a house full of clutter, but you can start to correct the problem with a few simple tips. Specifically, below are five ways to organize your home and kiss the clutter goodbye:

Label your stuff. If you are like most people, you store your seasonal clothes in a storage tub or space saving bag. Whichever method you choose, labeling your storage unit will allow you to quickly find what you are looking for. Some may choose to store their clothes, while others may store linens, bedding and other large items for later use. Proper labeling will allow you to identify the items without actually having to go through your entire storage area.

Use clear storage units when possible. By using clear storage units, you will be able to quickly find your favorite pair of shoes, winter coat or other item. If you use opaque storage, or that which cannot be seen through, you will have to rely solely on your labeling system to get you to the right area. Even then, it may take some time to sort through each individual piece of clothing or bedding before you find the item you’re looking for. By incorporating a labeling system on the outside of clear storage units, you truly are getting the best of both worlds.

Coffee mugs make great storage. If you are someone who tends to have pens and pencils lying around, but you can never seemingly find the one that you’re looking for, storing them in a coffee mug may be a wise idea. This will work for you in a home office setting, or on your living room’s coffee table. Additionally, this is also a great place to store paper clips for easy access.

Make a donation. One of the best ways that you can get organized and still do something great for others is to donate some of your unwanted items to a local non-profit thrift store. Any item of value that you no longer need or want, including household items and/or clothing, may make a wonderful find for someone else and, additionally, it will be helping an important cause.

Invest in a paper shredder. If you are like most people, you have read or heard about incidents involving identity theft. These days, it’s not a wise idea to simply toss out your old bills, bank statements, cancelled checks and/or invitations to apply for credit. Instead, invest in a confetti-cut paper shredder and get rid of your clutter in a way that won’t allow an unscrupulous crook to get your private information.
