When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, the choices in cabinets are so confusing. If you’re going for that personalized look and feel but want to save yourself a bundle in the process, you might want to consider semi-custom cabinets over custom or stock cabinets. Let’s consider the differences.

- Custom Cabinets — tailored exactly to your specifications, but also the most expensive kitchen cabinet option. The possibilities with custom cabinetry are endless because you are the inspiration behind the design. If you can dream it, a custom cabinet can be built to fill it. You’ll pay a hefty price tag for all this flexibility however. There’s also another downside to custom cabinets. They usually take six to ten weeks to deliver, so if you’re on a tight timeline, they may not be your best option.

- Stock Cabinets — provide off-the-shelf affordability. Stock cabinets are those you can go into your local home improvement center, see and touch for yourself, and literally order right off the wall. Stock cabinetry is the most budget conscious, but it also affords the least amount of room for design creativity. That’s because these cabinets are constructed before you pay for them…to industry standards, not yours. That means you have only a limited number of sizes and styles to choose from.

- Semi-custom Cabinets— offer the best of both worlds. Semi-custom cabinets are a perfect blend of custom and stock. Some custom features, like increased or reduced depth and/or width, can be built in to this type of cabinetry. The door, finish and wood options are also much more varied. Because they are built only when your order is finalized, semi-custom cabinets will take about a month for delivery.

So, there you have it, in a nutshell. If price isn’t a consideration, then by all means go for the custom treatment. If, however, your money doesn’t grow on trees, semi-custom cabinets can provide you with some of the same tailored features in a much more wallet-friendly price range.
