When hiring a contractor there is one very important thing that you should look at before signing your name on the dotted line. Do you know what that may be? Simply put, you will want to consider what else your contractor has built. In fact, you may even want to ask if you can see what else they have built in the past. As you can imagine, this is not always the easiest thing to do. For instance, if you are hiring a contractor to build your home, you may be able to get prospective contractors to show you what they have done in the past. But on the other side of things, this can be a bit more difficult if you are dealing with inside projects, etc.

There are two ways that you can get detailed information on what else your contractor has built. First off, you can ask the contractors that you are thinking about hiring. They will more than likely be able to give you a long list of projects that they have completed in the past. Of course, you will want to attempt to verify some of these if at all possible. The best way to do this is to ask for references. For instance, if you are hiring a contractor to build an addition to your home, ask for references from past clients who had similar work done. This can definitely help you make a decision in the long run.

In many cases, a contractor may be more than willing to take you to homes that they have worked on in the past. This is particularly easy if they are attempting to show you something on the exterior of a home. As mentioned above, if you are looking to have a home built, it will be easy enough for a contractor to show you the work that they have done in the past. In fact, they may even be able to give you the address so that you can check it out for yourself.

Getting information on other projects that your contractor has completed is always a good idea. When you can see what they have done in the past, you will have a much better chance of hiring the right person for the job. You owe it to yourself to hire the right contractor, and when you see their past work this is more than possible.
