Rajasthan is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Its rich culture and tradition of hospitality attract many tourists from all over the world. Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan is popularly known as the ‘Pink City’. It is famous for its colorful culture, forts, palaces, and lakes..

Other major cities of interest are Jodhpur and Udaipur. These a days Rajasthan is also gaining popularity as a wedding destination for the rich and famous. Liz and Arun Nayyar, Vikram and Priya Chattwal are some of the couples who got hitched here.

Jaipur

Jaipur is a thriving metropolis. It is a place of many contrasts and a feast for the eyes. Jaipur has retained its strong Rajputana flavor seasoned by several influences - the Mughal being the most important. Its strong cultural heritage is clearly evident even today. The city is a tourist’s delight. But beware, in summer the temperature reaches a scorching high of 45 C. The winters are more comfortable with an average of 22 C.The best months for visiting are from October to March.

There are a number of interesting sightseeing spots in Jaipur-
Amber Fort, Jaigarh fort, Rambagh Palace City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Raj Palace Jai Mahal Palace ,Naharganj Fort, Albert Hall Museum and Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Museum
Apart from these sites there are various festivals celebrated in the city-

Mewar Festival: - An 18-day festival celebrated to welcome the start of spring . It is important for the women of the state as it is time for them to dress in their best. The women get together to dress the idols of Issar and Gangaur and then carry them in a ceremonial parade through the city. The parade ends up at Pichhola Lake where the idols are transferred to special boats with a lot of singing and festivity..

Gangaur: - This spring festival is held to honor Gauri, the consort of Lord Shiva, the goddess of abundance. During the festival young girls dress up in their finest clothes and pray for grooms of their choice and the married women do the same for the welfare of their husbands. Though celebrated all over Rajasthan, in Jaipur it has its own charisma.

Teej Festival: - Teej is particularly celebrated in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. Lord Shiva and his partner Parvati are worshipped by married women who keep a 24-hour fast for the long life of their husband. The fast is a stringent one during which the women are not allowed to have even a drop of water.

Elephant Festival: - A festival celebrated around Holi. It is a great opportunity for the tourist to watch several elephant sports and enjoy the festival of colors. A glorious spectacle, it unveils the majesty and grandeur of elephants. A royal procession of sixty elephants in their best finery, a match of elephant polo and an elephant race are main attractions of the festival.
All in all Jaipur is a must have experience, if you are visiting India.
