Just about every home has pictures hanging on the walls, but not all of them are as appealing as they could be. The issue isn’t with the pictures themselves, but rather with the way in which they are displayed. Most people are careful about making sure the pictures they hang on the wall are straight, but you also need to pay attention to how high on the wall you place them as well as which wall of the room you put them on.

Even if you get the pictures straight though, you may not be happy with the overall look. Since you won’t want nail holes all over the wall though, most people just leave them in place and eventually they get used to the look of it. Here are some great tips to help you get your pictures hung in a manner that will offer you the best look.

The size of the pictures you are hanging makes a difference because large art is going to be the focal point of the room. Look for a feature area of your home such as over the couch, above the fireplace, or even on the dining room wall. Basically you are looking for the walls in a room where the eyes are automatically draw each time you enter it.

When you are hanging smaller pieces of art, you will want to group them in some type of pattern or design. Use frames that match or compliment each other to get the best overall effect. You want small pictures to be placed low on the wall close to furniture. Otherwise they may appear to be lost out there and be a distraction instead of appealing.

You want to group smaller pictures on the wall with about three inches between them. Make sure you measure the three inches plus from the side of the frame to the hook so you know how far in to mark your spots for nails.

Regardless of the size of the pictures you are hanging, you want the center of the picture to be at eye level, either while they are standing or sitting. Generally this will be from 60 to 66 inches from the floor. This is the same way that art is displayed in a gallery so that your eyes can visually be drawn to the pictures immediately. When you place pictures about furniture such as a couch or bed, you want it to be approximately 10 inches from the highest point of the piece of furniture.

Decorating the rooms in your home with lovely pictures and works of art can be fun. Doing it correctly will help ensure the rooms stay in balance and that the focal points of the room are very attractive.
