Richard Blackstone

We move from one state of being to another, depending on the present moment situation we are experiencing. We have choice over who we choose to be at all times. As we begin to understand this concept, we observe that what we choose depends on where our base ideas and concepts about ourselves individually and collectively, come from.

Our observation tells us that how we choose to be depends on which of the two core belief systems we hold as true for us.

If you believe that you are separate from all things and an entity unto yourself, then you are being separate.

If you believe that you are one with your source and one with everything in existence, seen and unseen, then you are being one.

Can you observe that your choice of beingness between these two base belief systems influences all the other choices in your life's journey?

You may think that you are separate from your source, and separate from all the other inhabitants of this earth, and separate from the earth itself, but you must know that this mentality is a choice. It is your choice. A choice you can continue to believe or a choice you may wish to change.

Our observations tell us that by continuing to be separate, you are not serving yourself.

Societal choices we make by being separate from each other, as people and nations, do not serve us. In fact, what we observe is that instead of serving us, being separate is tearing us apart. Instead of unity of purpose, we see a disunity that keeps us from defining our purpose.

Instead of one people with a common goal, we see many separate people seeking separate goals. Instead of seeing one humanity serving itself for the good of all, we see individual humans serving themselves for their own good and then turn their backs to the plight of others less fortunate.

We can observe this separation mentality for over two thousand years of recorded history and see that there is not one aspect of life that has benefited from the belief that we are separate from each other. In fact we can use our observations of the past to project into the future and give us a rough scenario of what we can expect, and it doesn't look good, given what we say are the goals of society.

Peace, happiness, freedom, love, abundance, stewardship and all the other goals we have, as individuals and society, are unachievable in a belief system that says we are separate. There will never be common agreement on these basic principals because each is defined separately by us, as individuals, and by societies that we call nations. Once you define your principle, then you must defend your principle. The mentality is that what you define as yours is right. If somebody defines the same thing differently from you, they are wrong.

This is the natural consequence of being separate. Instead of just observing things as they are we feel the need to judge whether “what is” is “right” or “wrong.” If you are being one with all things you can accept whatever is happening in your experience as just what is happening in your experience. It is neither right nor wrong, it is just “what is happening.”

This may be a stretch when you first start thinking this way but always remember that life is a process and that is the beauty of the human experience. You are the ultimate creator of your life. You have a choice of your basic belief system. You have the choice of “being separate” or of “being one.”

Ask yourself this question, “Which state of beingness serves me?”
