Videos are huge online now. Every second email seems to be a video. There are sites, such as You Tube, that are dedicated to people submitting their videos for public viewing. Here’s the brilliant thing, You Tube is free and it has tons of visitors everyday. A lot of people just use it for personal use but some bright sparks have had other ideas.

I was sent a link awhile ago (but unfortunately I didn’t save it to pass on) of a young guy, say about 16-18. It was a You Tube video of him sitting there playing his guitar. You may be thinking, what’s so special about that?, heaps of people play guitar. But this video was a bit different. This guy was pretty good and below the video was a link saying something like “If you’d like to learn how to play this and other songs please click here“. The link took you to a site where you could buy dvd’s that this young guy had made of himself sitting with his guitar teaching you step by step the fingering, strumming etc of songs.

What a brilliant unique idea. Unlike normal guitar lessons where you may have to travel to people’s homes and are limited to your area, this young guy could reach millions of people and his dvd’s were a good price so I dare say he sold heaps of them. Dvd’s are small and light so they wouldn’t cost much to post either.

So are you good at guitar? Do you have another skill that you could video and sell to people wanting to learn it? Are you a tradesman, say a ceramic tiler. You could make a video of a tiling job from measuring to mixing and spreading the glue to laying and cutting the tiles to mixing and spreading the grout. If you wanted to get technical you could make a series of videos from bathrooms to kitchens to special cuts to the different glues, grouts etc needed for different areas etc.

Are you good at art and painting? You could make a video of how to step by step paint a landscape, portrait explaining the different brush strokes used etc. Once again you could make a series of videos of the different styles of painting to the different paints and brushes.

Are you a horse lover? You could make a video of how to prepare a horse for a show from shampooing to brushing to plaiting a mane and tail to blackening hooves etc. You could make a video on the different dressage moves and how to teach your horse to do them.

These are just a couple of ideas of the videos you could create. There would be thousands of subjects that videos could be made on and sold. All you need is a computer, video camera, download some editing software, blank dvds and a dvd burner and maybe a tripod or someone to hold the camera. Also a printer would be handy to create dvd covers.

If this sounds a bit technical you could do the videoing and hire someone to edit and create the dvd’s for you. Also if you can’t think of anything to make a video on or you just don’t like being videoed you could interview/video someone else and go halves in the profits.

Like the young guy with his guitar you could show a snippet of your video on You Tube and have a link to a web page selling your dvd’s or you could sell them on one of the big auction sites like Ebay. Also you could join forums on your subject and let people know about your dvd’s.

Ebooks are another great way to earn money by writing about certain subjects but sometimes things are too hard to explain in writing or would take you a month of Sundays to explain so this is where the beauty of videos kicks in.

Hope this has given you some great ideas,

Cheers,

Elizabeth T
