GigaTribe Premium is a program that lets you share entire folders with friends in a private peer to peer (P2P) environment. You can share all your files (home movies, pictures, documents, basically all file types) no matter how large they are. The connection is secured through a 256-bit encryption. There is a free version and a paid one that includes some additional features. GigaTribe can be installed only on a Windows Operating System, but a Mac and Linux versions are coming soon. At the moment, the GigaTribe network has over 500,000 users.

Using the software is fairly easy. After you install TribalWeb, you will have to select the folders you want to share and invite your friends to join your private network. Interrupted exchanges are automatically resumed with no data loss.

Privacy and Security are not an issue, because only the folders you want to share are visible and this is only for the users of your network. When exchanging a file, only the sender and the receiver are aware of the exchange. All data exchanged on your network is encrypted (Blowfish encryption with a 256-bit key). TribalWeb contains no adware and can be uninstalled easily.

All these features are included in the standard version and are totally free. The free version allows you to exchange large files (even entire folders!) with my friends. The downside is that you can only download one file at a time.

With the paid version, you get to benefit from the multisource downloads. Support is available via email. You can limit folder access to a specific user group with different level of authorization (read/write) for all shared folders. Folders can be password protected.

Once you have connected to TribalWeb, you're going to invite your friends and/or accept their invitations. The group of users you have gathered will constitute your private network.
You will then choose which folders on your hard-drive you wish to share with the members of your network. They will then be able to see the contents of these shared folders and download what they want. You will be able to do the same when browsing through the folders they are sharing with you.

TribalWeb is a direct method of sharing your data. You don’t send your data via third parties (post office, email or community web servers, IM systems etc.). You therefore eliminate significant data transfer risks, save the time it all takes to repeatedly browse, attach and browse, eliminate postage and CD costs, and licking postage stamps.

The primary advantage to using TribalWeb is that you are only exchanging files with people you've chosen to exchange files with. Another great benefit of using TribalWeb, is that you decide what files to download, nobody sends you a file without your permission.

The transfers occur directly between your computer and your friends or associates. GigaTribe’s online server simply manages the user identities list using the software (i.e. those who are running their software in real time) and thus simply lets you know the friends/associates that are online and available in your homegrown network. The server does not manage (thus slow down) what is transferred on your upload or download – permission and transfer management is done on the software running locally on your PC.
