For drivers everywhere safety is of utmost importance. That is why vehicles are mounted with tools fashioned in a way as to provide nocturnal visibility under various driving circumstances. This is where the car lighting system, consisting of fog lights, head lights, conspicuity devices and signaling devices, enters the scene. These gears provide extra illumination helping improve nighttime driving safety.

In a year, imagine 7 deaths and 88 injuries occurring due to insufficient vehicle lighting. Visibility is an essential aspect in driving. It would be difficult for anyone to maneuver an automobile with Mother Nature providing fog, snow or storm. Then again, too bright a light could prove just as dangerous because the glare it produces tends to blind other drivers.

Manufacturers offer custom head lights that allow vehicle owners to add a little touch of personality by furnishing halogen beams or xenon lightsyet still giving the assurance that their products will not create a condition where other road users will be temporarily deprived of sight.

It’s the responsibility of the owner to make sure the vehicle lights are kept clean and in good condition at all times. Regular check-up needs to be done to assure that all car lights function well. You may choose to check your car lights before leaving the parking lot or during gas-up stops for the reason that you may not become aware of faulty lights when you’re already cruising the road. From head lights to signal lights to fog lights, all of these should be operational. If a car light does not work, most probably it is due to a busted bulb. In such event, the bulb could easily be replaced with a new one. A visit to your local auto parts will solve the problem. These bulbs are standard pieces so they are not hard to find. Most headlight bulbs are secured with spring clips. Be gentle when removing the clips so that it will not bend out of place. Take note that some bulbs must not be touched using bare hands like the halogen bulbs and the parking light. A simple contact could trigger a chemical reaction, which may damage the bulb or the reflector. For DIY aficionados, I suggest that you check your owner’s manual for directions and specifications on how to properly install the bulbs.

Another reason for car lights not working would be corroded wirings and/or loose connections. These wire connections may be tricky, if you are not confident with the wiring you’ve done, you could always opt to ask the help of a qualified service professional.

I recommend that when you change your car lights do it in pairs---meaning if you change the left head light that lost its spark, change the right one too. More or less the life span of the right head light will soon come to a stop.

Regular headlights must be change after a year of usage but there are companies that provide products that last longer and illuminates much brighter than the standard bulbs like the xenon lights or the halogen bulbs.

Be it regular or xenon lights, make certain that it will serve its purpose---visibility.
