In this age of utmost connectivity instant updating on status, be it a business transaction or a legal case, is what everyone appreciates. You book a document through courier, you transfer money online to your son’s account or you place an order for a computer on an e-commerce site – no matter how small or big the transaction is, we all want to be able to track its updated status at any point of time.

Legal cases are very complicated compared to the above transactions. They involve a number of parties such as clients, work providers, estate agents, brokers or solicitors. Legal processes are also considerably long-drawn ones. So any solution that offers Online Case Tracking is a boon to all concerned.

An Online Case Tracking Solution should enable each of the parties concerned to look up and track all matter details, including WIP, accounting information, actions taken and the progress being made on all case management files over the Internet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

However a very important factor is controlling how much each party can view of the progress details made on a matter. When this is published to the Internet, access to different parties should be is strictly controlled by the solicitor. This can range from allowing the average homebuyer to see a milestone report to the corporate clients whose needs facilitate access to accounting information to a member of staff who requires viewing of the complete file at another branch. The system works by generating a unique reference number and password for each party who may need to view a progress report, whether they are a client, introducer or estate agent.

The advantages of Online Case Tracking are immense.

Access to the latest information can be viewed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, directly over the World Wide Web at a time which is convenient to the interested party, whether it's a client at home, or a solicitor on a train going to their next meeting. Real time publishing of data, for example, as soon as a date for example has been agreed or a letter has been sent out, the information is available to view.

As the latest information can be viewed online, solicitors benefit enormously by the reduction in time consuming aspects of answering questions and queries relating to matters; allowing them to concentrate and increase their profit generating areas of their business. Parties such as clients or estate agents gain from the instant access to information. Unfortunately, clients are often required to make a number of telephone calls to their solicitors' office, partly because of the work commitments by their solicitor to other tasks which makes it difficult for a client to receive an immediate response. Clients can now get their answers quickly and easily from the internet without ever talking to their solicitor.

As it is not always possible for clients to contact practitioners at certain times of the day because of work constraints or commitments; the internet means that they can communicate with their solicitor at a time of day which is convenient to them. Clients can e-mail the fee earner responsible for their matter and receive a response back, even if this is outside the normal working hours.

So any Software Solution that provides Online Case Tracking is a must-invest for every legal practitioner.
