Bad Habits That Can Give You Wrinkles

You stay out of the sun, use a hat or umbrella when you go out, don’t smoke, and face the world with a smile. For some reason, though, that hasn’t prevented you from getting wrinkles. Sure, aging is inevitable but that shouldn’t make you look like a prune.

Perhaps you’ve missed something else. This article will tell you what. Unknown to many, the following bad habits can contribute to wrinkles. So read on and remember: what you don’t know can hurt you!

Drinking from a straw – sipping your favorite beverage through a straw is nice and neat. Sadly, it can mess up your face. Dermatologists say the act of sipping is like smoking a cigar. Repeated puckering can leave you with a lot of wrinkles. My advice: lose the straw and drink directly from the bottle or can.

Postponing your eye exam - it pays to have your eyes checked every two to four years or more frequently if you have an existing eye disease or feel funny. This can benefit you in two ways. First, it will detect vision problems and lead to early treatment. Secondly, it will spare you from the agony of wrinkles. Yup that’s right! Not wearing the right glasses can make reading difficult and make you squint a lot too. That, my friend, contributes to crow’s feet and other wrinkles.

Wearing contact lenses – sure, they can make you look younger. You can even change the color of your eyes everyday if you like! But wearing them can pose a challenge to the uninitiated. If you’re not careful, pulling the skin tightly to insert them can lead to wrinkles. Applying the wrong pressure to this delicate part of the body can eventually make the skin sag. The moral of the story? Learn how to insert contact lenses properly.

Too little sleep - everyone says you’re a hard worker and your boss even carries your picture in his wallet since he’s proud of you. But if working hard for you means not getting enough sleep, you’re in deep trouble. What’s the use of having all that money if it makes you look like a crushed beer can? Experts say we need six to eight hours of sleep daily to function normally and look young and refreshed. So sleep your wrinkles away today!

Too much sleep – don’t make the mistake of using the above as an excuse for being lazy and unproductive. Doctors warn that sleeping too much is also bad for your health and can cause wrinkles. Scientists at the University of California also found that people who sleep for over eight hours daily tend to die younger.

Wearing eye liner - you’re proud of your eyes and wear eye liner to define them. Nothing wrong with that except that pulling the eyelids to apply your favorite eye liner can stretch the skin and cause wrinkles. Here’s a simple solution: pull the skin up gently at the temple. This is less likely to harm your skin.

Using the wrong wrinkle fighter – there are dozens of products in the market. I’m not saying you shouldn’t try them. Buy them all if you like – just make sure they work.
