Christmas lights are a great way to decorate during the holiday season. Choose your options wisely to get the right end result.

Christmas lights of beautiful colors or simply white lights are popular during the holiday season. You can use many lighting styles for your home. Using the right ones will mean not spending too much or creating a glaring mess of lights that people do not like. Choose lighting styles that you can enjoy throughout the holiday season.

What Lights Will You Use?

Before selecting the light decorations for your home, take a look at your home and the various places you can place decorations. Make a list and then shop accordingly. What colors do you want to use? How much space do you have? You can consider using a theme or you can freestyle your lighting display. A theme can help give you a neater appearance to those that pass by. Choose options like stars, a manger scene, Santa and elves or others.

Light Choices

While you have a theme in mind, consider the various options in lights. For example, you could go with a single color, just white or multi colored lights for the home. In addition, find dimming, flashing or stay on lights to choose from for the display. You may even want to consider a light display pattern that will run. Once you have your theme, your lighting choices and your colors selected, you can think about incorporating the decorations around your home into the look. Lawn decorations as well as on the house decorations should be considered.

Details In The Lights

On the market today are a huge number of styles of bulbs. Bulb lights are one option but you may want to consider neon lights that run in a rope style. These are some of the neatest options. Use them where they seem to fit. For example, placing them on roof eves on the structure of your home is a good place. You may want to look at icicle lights, too. These are one of the most popular choices. Hang these on the edge of your roof line or in the bushes. Lighted garland is great for putting over a fence or around the porch.

Lights also come in to play with the decorations that you purchase for your lawn. Incorporate them in color and style. Inflatable Christmas decorations are increasingly popular options.

When you take your time in planning your Christmas lights, you can quickly find yourself with a beautiful yard that is the envy of your neighborhood. Do not over do it because less is more when it comes to lighting.

The Origins Of The Christmas Tree Revealed

Learn where the Christmas tree came from as the origins of the Christmas tree are revealed.

The origin of the Christmas tree started in Germany. Well back to the 7th century, a Devonshire monk traveled to Germany to preach about God. In doing so, he used the triangle shape of the fir tree to describe to those that he preached to about the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity is, "God the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit." This helped to make the Christmas tree a revered symbol in the region. In this region, the trees would be hung upside down from the ceiling of the home as a symbol that the people were Christians.

Around The World

The Christmas tree has origins throughout the world. In 1510, the first decorated tree was reported. Another piece of history says that Martin Luther was coming home late one night and noticed the stars twinkling through the branches of a fir tree. Enjoying the sight, he determined that adding candles to the tree would make them beautiful. This is perhaps the first decoration considered, but there are many more.

Decorating The Tree

Food is regularly used to decorate the Christmas tree. In using food, they symbolized "plenty" and paper flowers that were placed on these trees were symbols of the Garden of Eden. Tinsel is also used and has a history. It first was seen used in 1610 but at this time, it was actually made of pulled silver. This allowed for a durable, long lasting decoration that did not tarnish. This tradition continued through the 20th century.

Who Had Them?

In England, Georgian Kings brought in the first Christmas trees. Often, these were only seen in homes where there were German neighbors. It would not be until Queen Victoria and Prince Albert that the trees would become popular in England, as this was family custom for the Prince. Throughout England, this was copied, as many saw this beautiful display through the London News and wanted to copy the Queen. It even spread to the Americas at this time.

Glass ornaments first were used in 1870 and they were brought in from Thuringia and quickly became a status symptom there. Flags were later used during the time of the British Empire. Throughout the next years, various changes were made to the trees including the 1800's where electricity allowed for lights to be added to the trees. In 1882, metal hooks were first fashioned.

The origins of the Christmas tree are unique to each region of the world, but they tell of history.
