Sprucing up a spruce on the holidays isn't the only thing getting a little extra flair or some added silver tinsel care. For us men, our winter wardrobes - if not already in the doldrums – are almost always in need of some revamping and revitalizing.

Winter is a bitter beast, but that doesn't mean your style has to be as well. Bring in the warmth with clever innovation, some well-layered garb and a gained confidence that could melt away any frozen forecast of wintry doubts.

Thaw out your previous winter fashions and take note of some winterized recommended wearables for 2007, and upcoming 2008:

One of the most advantageous aspects about dressing to keep warm is layering. It's efficient in maintaining warmth and it can take an outfit up a notch. A few options:

Parka's and Suits - Break through the weather, don't bend to it. Wear a parka over a suit to defeat the chill. Stay neutral in color, and choose a coat longer than your suit.

Down Vests Are Downtown - Layer with a down vest instead of an additional, bulky, constrictive coat. Thin and puffier vests can be worn both under and over suit jackets, sweaters, hoodies and the like; be creative with your layering.

Multi-Functional Coats - Consider wool topcoats utilizing a lining of detachable insulated vests. Wear the coat and vest together, or remove when inclined and go solo with either or. Be adaptable and look dapper in the process.

Yes, Long Johns - Withstanding the cold in thin work slacks or dressy jeans is risky business. Be confident instead and stay warm with a pair of updated, non-juvenile and thin body-forming silk leggings.

Maintain Your Melon

The majority of your body's heat escapes through the head. To keep the warmth in, wear a lid. Aim for a simple, yet fashionable, classic knit beanie or tweed-made newsboy cap. Use your noggin, cover it up.

The Neck Wrap-Up

Scarves are a must. They're warm, look swank and add another layer to any outfit; and layering equals fashion sagacity. Enticingly enough, scarves are extremely versatile too, both in presentation and composition. Wrap-up your neck using various scarf-folding techniques including three familiars: “the once around,” “the simple tie knot” or “the slipknot.” Fabric-wise, your options are clear and expansive. Choose from knitted wool, cashmere and lambswool as well as a plethora of other materials.

Glove Lovin'

It's in the teens and blustery outside; be wise, protect your hands. Wear gloves, but opt for sophistication over absurdity. Sport classic leather or wool gloves to maintain stable fashion-footing instead of slipping on ice while wearing granny's homemade mittens. Also, remember to color-code. Match your gloves to your overcoat and/or shoes.

Boots With A Suit, Eh?

Boots and winter go hand in hand. But, adding boots while wearing a suit? It is possible, and highly fashionable. Actually, the right boots and a smashing suit are a snazzy combo, granted they're matched well enough. If you're going to boot it, and suit it, focus your suiting specs toward slimmer and sleeker, with a modernized appeal to allow a handsome pair of dark, almost combative style boots. You'll look sharp and be able to shield yourself from the most frigid and ferocious weather winter can call to arms.

Put Christmas tree beautification to the side. Open your wardrobe and let that old air clear out and dissipate. Start fresh, breathe in a bit of that crisp winter air and check out what seasonal clothing you're working with. You can begin from scratch or supplement what clothes you already own, taking the above winter attire suggestions into consideration. Above all else, bundle up, be confident and stay fashionably savvy.
