A T Trimble

There are many self storage units popping up all over the country. Many people do not have enough room to keep all of their items so they rent storage units to store belongings they are not using at the time such as lawn furniture during the winter months. If they have a small apartment in the city this is another good idea for those that wish to keep these items but do not have room until they purchase a home. You can find many different types of self storage units for anything from just boxes all the way up to your boat or car!

The pricing varies by the size and your need for the different units. Some start out at only $25 a month all the way up to $100. Many now have yearly rentals for larger items such as boats and cars. You can talk with a representative and let them know what you are looking to store and they will give you prices for storing the items by month or annually. Remember, there are different laws that govern self storage industry from state to state. You should check on the lien laws.

Self storage auctions are held when a tenant defaults on paying for the unit. You will sign a contract agreeing to their terms and prices. If you fall behind in your payments, you will be given the chance to catch up whatever you are behind within a set amount of time, before they own the entire contents of the unit. If you do not pay then your belongings will belong to the company to do with what they want and you cannot get it back unless you settle upon new terms or buy it at the auction. Check the dates as some will be canceled if they settle before hand and many wait until the last minute. Most companies have 30-40 units to sell at a time, that way they do not have to mess with just one unit. They will hold an auction and sell whatever is in that unit. Usually you will be buying the whole unit. They hardly ever sell by the item. So check the rules of the auction before bidding. In many cases, the items if boxed are sold as is, they will glance at the top and normally only describe a few items that are seen.

The sizes of self storage vary from small units that will only hold a roomful of furniture to larger units that will hold your entire houseful. Other companies have larger units for you to store your boat or pontoon for the winter season or your car. They have security cameras that run 24-7 and locks on each unit. Some of the larger companies have security guards round the clock.

Many people use self storage auctions to make a living by selling the items they purchase on EBay, garage sales, or other used stores. You can find many great items that sell fast! You may even find many old antiques that just may put your child through college!
