Janitorial services are popular nowadays; in fact, there are agencies that supply janitorial cleaning services to companies, schools, buildings and other places that need commercial cleaning and carpet cleaning services. We must admit that most establishments to date have carpets that accumulate dust and other forms of dirt. Cleaning services residential or otherwise can be easily located; you just have to know what numbers to call.

I look up to janitorial cleaning services, and of course, the janitors. They do stuff that most of us hate, like dusting shelves, wiping off tabletops, and bathroom cleaning. Admit it or not, we would rather do something more productive and informative than establish connections between brooms and grime, between trashcans and garbage.

Cleaning is one tedious task that almost nobody enjoys doing. Personally though, I find it highly invigorating, especially if the room I am cleaning is my bedroom. Some people do the typical stuff, like mopping and wiping. But for me, cleaning my room is like having a trip down memory lane. How do I do that?

I first sort through all of my things: separate those that I plan to keep and those that I plan to finally throw away. This takes around two to three hours (2-3). Tissues from coffee shops, restaurants and other food outlets that I’ve been to with special people, candy wrappers, food wrappings and food containers from almost everywhere, concert tickets, movie house premiere night passes, letters from friends, cards from family and relatives, print outputs of Yahoo Messenger conversations and emails, bookmarks, torn sheets of papers with phone numbers from strangers I just met, flower petals, receipts, cellular phone cards that were given to me, stuffed animals, figurines, troll dolls, accessories I bought… the list goes on! I sort them into two piles, then put into bags those that I plan to ‘say goodbye to’ and then throw them out, while the other pile would go to the second level of sorting.

Those that I got during bonding moments such as dates, parties, sleepovers and the like, I put them in one pile. Those that I bought for myself and have acquired alone, I put them in another pile. The first batch comes with reminiscing. I could still remember the moment when I got the piece. Sometimes, a smile slowly creeps into my face, but at some points though, the smile do not reach the eyes. But it does not mean I don’t treasure the object in hand. After all, it is in the pile that got into the second level of sorting. I now put them away in a crafted box inside my personalized treasure chest. I call it my ‘treasure chest of memories’.

The second batch is now given attention: I open one of my diaries (yes, I have several), then jot down the experience. Remember that those in the second batch are the things I got while enjoying quality time with myself. After I write about the items, each having an estimate of four to five (4-5) pages, I finally put them in a box and store them inside my treasure chest.

Next comes the ‘much awaited’ mopping, window wiping and floor scrubbing and sweeping. This takes thirty (30) minutes max. I don’t take much time in doing this part of the cleaning because I don’t stay much at home. My bedroom is uninhabited Mondays to Fridays, so the amount of dirt it should have accumulated in those five days is down to about eighty percent (80%).
