Anything that glows looks attractive. Whether it is your glow-in-the-dark ceiling moons and stars, your glow-in-the-dark dinosaur collections, glow-in-the-dark nail polish to your glowing body tattoos, illumination has become a part of fashion. Why not use the power of light to spice up your relationships? Or add life to your old boring plain t-shirts and jeans. This can be done to anything made of fabric and the results are stunning!

Is your anniversary coming? Is her birthday around the corner? Want to cheer up someone or just plainly surprise him? One great thing to do is to leave secret glowing love messages for them to discover after a good night’s sleep. Here’s a simple way how to do it with his pillowcase. Be sure you have these materials at hand: freezer paper, flathead paint brush, glow-in-the-dark fabric paint (any color will do but brighter colors work best against dark backgrounds), craft knife, cardboard, scissors, pen and an iron. You can also use jewels like rhinestones and beads to embellish your message.

Before doing this, make sure you wash and iron the pillowcase to get rid of any dirt and creases. A plain colored pillowcase is the best candidate for this job as it makes it easier to read the messages. Make a design as small or as big as you like and trace it on the unwaxed side of the freezer paper. Freezer papers should be available in most grocery stores in your area. It is usually stocked along the paper products’ aisle in line with wax papers, paper towels and paper plates. Once you’ve traced the design, gently cut it out with a craft knife. Be careful not to lose those small pieces needed for the design to be complete. Like for example, if you are using the letter O as part of the design, be sure to save its center part. Placed the paper waxed side down in the position you’d like it to be. You can put your design horizontally, vertically or diagonally, whichever suit your taste and will best serve your intentions. You can put it in the middle of the pillowcase or at its sides. Pre-heat iron and iron it. Do not use the back-and-forth motion when ironing as it may ruin your design. The technique is to just press and hold. Like silk screening, the waxed area will gently stick to the fabric.

You can now start painting your design. But prior to this, put a cardboard between the sheets of the pillowcase in case the paint seeps through the fabric. Using your flathead paintbrush, work from the outside edges of the draft going in until the design is completely covered with glow-in-the-dark paint. Two coats should be applied for better outcome. Let the paint completely dry before taking off the inserted cardboard. Lightly remove the freezer paper and then heat-set the fabric paint according to the product’s instructions.

Now you're ready to surprise him/her and let your secret glowing messages say it all. Let your special someone glow with love and satisfaction!
