Ankle lock is one of the most popular leg lock techniques used in martial arts like Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Somba, submission wrestling, combat wrestling, mixed martial art competition and other professional wrestling and martial arts.

An ankle lock which is also called shin lock is a leg lock applied to ankle joints. According to professional grappling and martial arts information, an ankle lock is hyper-extension of the talocrural joint through plantar hyperflexion. Ankle lock is applied in such a way that the joint is compressed in the process rather performance of applying. It is also effective in straining muscle. The technique specially allows the term to be used is straight ankle lock. It is totally dependent on the performing style that it is known to us with different names. In that perspective it is known as Achilles lock.

Ankle lock technique uses legs to isolate the opponent’s legs. Then the attacker uses his armpit to grab or place the foot in it. By moving the hips forward, the foot becomes insanely flexed. It creates a strong and effective joint lock on the ankle. The forearm serves as a point of joint lock in the whole movement, and may cause severe pressure on the Achilles tendon. This straight ankle lock is quite often referred to as an "Achilles lock". Thus the widely used art in this technique is Achilles lock. Another stylized technique used in ankle locks is the Quasimodo Shin Lock which is not common. Brazilian jiu-jitsu allows these techniques to be used.

Leg locks are match winner Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques used by its performers. Leg locks are of several types and these types are used widely with strict guidelines and exceptions. One such type is knee bar. Knee bar technique is used for leg and is analogous to juji-gatame armbar technique in various respects.

A knee bar also known as straight leg bar, is a leg lock which over extends the knee joints. The basic knee bar technique is similar to that of arm bar technique. In this, the attacker holds the legs of the opponent between his legs and arms such that the knee joint of the opponent points towards his body. Knee bar technique takes a little bit help of hip lock technique in the forward movement of the leg. Attacker moves his hips forward to straighten the legs of his opponent. The further development in this performance overextends or hyper-extends the knee of the opponent.

You can notice a similar variation in the knee bar, as noticed in the case of arm bar. But instead of holding the legs with the hands, the opponent's foot is held backward with the help of armpit. By backward and forward movements of shoulder and hips respectively, a greater amount of force is applied to the knee, it becomes very difficult to bear the lock. Again there are different types of knee bar techniques. Basic knee bar, foot pull knee bar, rolling knee bar and uchi-mata knee bar. It is used in Brazilian jiu-jitsu commonly.
