Do you Unibind? The catchy slogan for the Unibind line of Binding Machines and Binding Supplies causes you to stop and think. However, when posed with this question, most people tend to ask me “What is Unibind?” This article is designed to provide a brief introduction to Unibind Binding and give you an idea of the things that make Unibind binding unique. Here are five things you should know about Unibind…

1. Unibind binding uses a Unibind Binding Machine along with a steel binding channel that has a special glue inside of it to bind documents, reports, presentations and proposals. In order to bind a book with Unibind you simply place your pages into the spine of the Unibind Cover and place the document on the Unibind machine. The Unibind Machine recognizes the steel spine when you place it on the machine and automatically activates and uses heat to provide a high quality, professional and permanent bind.

2. Unibind makes a number of different binding supplies for their machines. Here is a quick overview of the different supplies available for Unibind binding.

* Steelback spines include just a colored steel spine which allows you to use your own front and back binding covers (these spines are shipped with tear off paper covers attached to them to make them easier to use).

* Steelcrystal covers include a Steel Spine with a clear cover attached to the front and the back of the spine. These clear covers provide protection for your document while allowing you to see the graphics or printing on your first and last pages of your document.

* Steelmat covers include a Steel Spine with frost cover attached to front and back of the spine. Like steel crystal covers these covers also allow you to see the first and last pages of your report but provide an elegant frosted look to your reports and presentations.

* Steelbook hard covers allow you to quickly produce high quality hard cover presentations and proposals in just seconds. These hard covers have the patented Unibind Steel Spine hidden in the spine of the hard cover and are available with solid fronts or with a number of different window options.

* Unibind Photobooks are similar to Unibind Steelbook hard covers but provide hard cover binding options that are landscape with special windows and in special finishes. These photobooks are specifically designed for use in binding photobooks but are also ideal for high quality real estate presentations, artistic portfolios and more. Unibind photobooks are available in letter size (landscape) with a window, 8” x 8”, 5” x 7”, 4” x 6”, 8” x 10” and 12” x 12”.

3. Unibind supplies are available for presentations that are as small as just a few pages or as large as 1-1/2” thick. When choosing the Unibind spine for your project it is important that you select the correct size. If you are too large then there will be excess room in the spine and if you are too small all of your pages won’t fit. A convenient sizing guide is available to help you select the correct size of spine for your document. However, if you are going to guess it is always best to guess larger than smaller since having a bit more room is better than having to leave some pages out of your documents.

4. Unibind Binding Supplies are available in a number of different colors to help you match the spine of your report to your organizations colors or to help provide you with the look and feel that you desire for your company’s image. Some of the great colors that are offered by Unibind include Black, White, Aluminum, Bordeaux (Burgundy / Maroon), Dark Blue, Dark Green and Graphite.

5. Unibind binding is one of the fastest binding styles on the market since it allows you bind multiple documents at a time. An XU138 binding machine allows you to bind up to 8 documents at a time and some of the larger Unibind units are designed to accommodate huge numbers of documents. Amazingly, it doesn’t take any longer to bind 8 documents than it does to bind just one.
