Beware The Lure Of Becoming A Work From Home Specialist

It is a sad fact that the Internet is home to a plethora of scam artists who will try to sell you anything and everything in an effort to enrich themselves. Precious little thought is given to you, your limited resources, or that your hopes and dreams may get dashed in the process. Perhaps this is the premier reason why so many work from home scams are so hard on the people taken in by them – it is more than just a financial hardship, it is in fact a shattering of their dreams!

Considering that those who look for home businesses to start and operate usually do so not because they have so much spare time, but instead because they are trying to do right by their kids who need a parent at home and also because they realize that their regular job is no longer bringing in enough money, the expense of being taken advantage of goes far deeper than just the monetary losses. Perhaps the individual already made arrangements to work from home and invested time and money in setting up a home office. Maybe she or he has already excitedly shared the good news of their impending entrepreneurship with friends and family only to now have to admit to having been taken.

In light of these devastations it is interesting that most warnings against home based business scams usually only point to the obvious culprits: those asking for a lot of upfront cash, websites which do not specify the good or service you would be selling, and of course the investment of excessive funds into a multi level marketing network. Yet one incarnation of the scam artists has by and large gone unreported: beware the lure of becoming a work from home specialist!

A specialist is someone who has superior knowledge on a subject. In industry terms, this might refer to a real estate appraiser, an antiques appraiser, a gemologist, or a numismatic. These are individuals who make use of their superior knowledge and translate their experience, their book learning, and their passion for any given field into a lucrative business. Becoming a specialist, however, is not something you can pick up overnight.

The foregoing notwithstanding, there are a plethora of websites which are selling quick courses that promise to get you ready and sufficiently skilled to start and operate your very own home business doing something that takes bona fide professionals years to accomplish. For example, becoming an appraiser is not something you can learn in five easy lessons. Instead, you must have a passion for the items you are to appraise – be it books, furniture, real estate, or jewelry – and learn all about them you can; you must hone your skills so that you can recognize the fine nuances and separate the fakes from the real thing.

Even as websites promise to get you ready with their special train at home kits that will permit you access to the world of appraisals and gemology, be wary of such claims! Skills such as these are valuable to posses and while any course may get you started, it will hardly prepare you for a lucrative career in the field.
