You’re new to the college scene and like anything in life; you have no idea on what’s going on. The best way to learn about something is to get the advice from someone that’s been there and done that. Once you get that fantastic advice, you then get to understand what college is all about.

The following tips should help you out a lot when it comes to taking classes away from home or close to home. Regardless of where you’re going, most colleges are the same. When we say the same, we mean the atmosphere, the style of the classrooms, etc.

Be organized with classes

If you haven’t registered yet already, make sure that you don’t schedule classes back to back. You’ll find that the best time to study for class is between classes. The best thing to do usually is to schedule your classes about a good hour or two hours apart. Having classes too close to each other will make it harder for you to comprehend everything.

Set a schedule

Once you start your classes, you’re going to have a set schedule with those classes. Chances are that those classes will never change. Outside of your classroom work, you need to set an established time where you will be studying every day. Treat studying as if it were a class as well. The more studying you’re able to do, the better you’re going to be in the class.

Use the resources at school

If your school has resources, which they should, you should most definitely take advantage of them. If they offer books, be sure to read them. If they offer free internet services or guest speaking seminars, etc., be sure to take advantage of everything possible. If you do this, you’ll be thanking yourself later.

Network, network, and network

Like life in general, the only way you’re going to get far in a career is to network with someone. No matter what you do in life, you will find that networking is the best key to anything to become successful. The same goes with networking when you’re attending classes. It’s always best to find someone in the class and network with them so that you can have a studying partner. A studying partner is always good because you can both share what you do and don’t know about the class.

Eat healthy

You’re probably reading this one and thinking to yourself, “Why do I have to eat healthy?” If you don’t know by now, a well balanced diet gives you energy. If you have energy, this will be great for your study portions of your day. Without energy, you will not be motivated to study for class. Try to stay away from the fatty foods and junk food.

These are just a few of the million of tips that come to surviving college. The main focus point should be your classroom work and studying. If you can accomplish both of these throughout your college career, you’ll be on the right path to a solid career.
