One of the key attributes of any home office is going to be a door that closes. When working at home there are going to be interruptions, some of them may even be welcome, but repeated distractions will only serve to keep you from the task at hand and prevent you from being the best you can be. Regardless of the industry in which you are involved, if you cannot spend the time working without interruptions, it will be difficult to keep your mind on the job and slow your progress on achieving your Hundred-Fold-Life.

There may be some people that thrive on chaos in the work place, but the vast majority requires concentration in order to get their work done in a timely manner. When you work for yourself in your own home office, there will not be anyone reminding you of things that need to be done or to give you a little nudge toward an approaching deadline. You are going to be the only thing standing in the way of your own success. Allowing your day to be disrupted will not help you on the way to success.

Family can provide the most distractions when you work at home and while they may claim they understand how important it is for you to dedicate time to your job, they really see you as being home and available any time of the day. The tough part is going to be convincing them that although you are at home, you are still working. The saying of out of sight, out of mind needs to be considered; especially of you are just beginning to work at home.

Most families would never consider going to your place of employment and asking various questions or wanting you to take care of some household chore in the middle of the day. However, they have no qualms about walking into your home office and interrupting your work. In some cases it may be nice to have a little distraction in the middle of a complex project, but interruptions on a regular basis can quickly become a hindrance to getting the project completed.

If it is possible to set up your home office in a spare room that has a door, you may want to keep the door closed when you are working on something that requires your undivided attention. The door can be a sign to the rest of the family that when it is closed, you are not available for anything that does not pertain to you home-based-business. When you have time to welcome distractions, you can open the door and the family knows you can take some time from work to spend with them if needed. Seeing and being with your family more is one of the reasons that you have chosen to have a home business and that's great, but remember you need to get the work done. If not you will find yourself back to the old grind and robbing yourself of your Hundred-Fold-Life.

Once you have established you work schedule, you will find fewer interruptions will come from family and friends and you might be able to open the door during the day again. However, if it becomes too distracting, even with the door closed, perhaps a guard dog can be trained to sit outside your home office door as a determent to possible distractions.
