Six Tips For Feeling Full

No healthy diet should make you feel hungry all the time. Still, even when you have eaten a healthy amount, hunger can strike from time to time. How do put those pangs at bay without completely blowing your fitness plan?

1. Protein

Protein takes longer to digest, which means that eating protein will make you feel fuller for longer periods of time. It’s a good idea to start off your day with a nice big boost of protein, such as from egg whites or skim milk, so you don’t suffer from reoccurring hunger pangs. You have to be careful though, protein often comes with fat, so make sure you get your protein from healthy sources. A lot of protein can also help you burn fat. Since protein is harder to digest, it takes more energy to metabolize, and that energy can come from your body fat. Don’t go overboard though. Too much protein will just get converted into fat.

2. Eat Nuts

Nuts have a good level of protein and are easy to take with you. Nuts also have a lot of healthy fats, which are also good at squashing hunger and can help keep your bad cholesterol levels down. If you constantly feel yourself getting the need to eat while you go about your daily errands, store some walnuts in your glove compartment. Though they might not be the best tasting, you should opt for the unflavored and unsalted variety for the full health effect.

3. Drink Water

Water has many wonderful qualities, and making you feel full on zero calories is just one of them. Make sure to keep water on you all the day, and keep chugging it as the day goes on. Besides quelling your hunger water can also help you burn fat, help your organs function better, and clear your skin.

4. Exercise

You should already be doing this one, but exercise is a powerful appetite suppressant. If you are feeling hungry even though you just had your scheduled meal, try going for a quick jog or running up and down the stairs. You may be surprised to discover that your hunger has completely gone away. Exercise teaches your body to make the most efficient use of your food. It also can help reduce stress, which is a major reason why many mindlessly eat.

5. Eat Slowly

When you are eating, it takes time for your stomach to let you know that you have had enough. If you eat slowly, really take time to chew, and set your utensils down in between bites, you mind wind up feeling full before you finish your entire meal. It can also be helpful to eat with friends and family, that way you can converse in between bites.

6. Keep Yourself Entertained

Sometimes when you think you are hungry, you actually just bored and looking for something to do. Try and learn the difference, and when you think you are feeling hungry try listening to some music, watching a movie, or reading a book instead. Check in twenty minutes to see if the hunger is still there.
