By far the most annoying type of advertising, aside from spamming, is the Pop-up ad. This is because it tends to jump right up in one’s face at any unexpected moment, usually triggered when a surfer enters a site for which the pop-up ad represents a particular promotion. It is because of this “quick-launch” effect, however, that these ads don’t go unnoticed by anyone. This is the point of advertising.

Pop-up adds are magical creation made through Flash and Java software and requires HTML and/or PHP hyperlink coding just like any other program having it’s own self-activation capability and able to be integrated with other Internet software systems. It’s due its multifaceted nature that the Pop-up ads are used, and because of their persistence in grabbing hold of public’s attention that they are so popular. Without either ability-independent activation and affiliated networking with other systems-the pop-up ad would not likely be employed as often as it has been.

Content-wise, pop-up ads involve anything from the simple colored image to the animated or motion video with sound, but all have incorporated links, otherwise they wouldn’t work. Many are devised with either pull-over or entire fields that serve as an active link toward a home or associated site that can open up in either the same or different window, depending on the design of the particular program. This makes them touch-sensitive, which, of course, is intended. One purpose of the pop-up is to tally up traffic “hits”, regardless of whether or not the person doing the “hitting” makes a purchase of any of the sites involved in or connected to the pop-up ad. The success of a site is determined of how many “hits” it acquires during a give period of time, so the only action about which the web business owners are concerned would be the surfer’s click, either deliberate or accidental, on the ad. Touch-sensitive software ensure this, and that’s why it is very commonly used among online businesses.

Another common feature of the pop-up concept is multiple launchings; that is, when a surfer enters a site, quite often several pop-up ads will launch simultaneously, one representing each of affiliated sites that are ventured together. This is typical within networking circles where various web business owners work together toward a common cause. The more pop-up ads that are launched at one time, the greater the chances for a higher number of “hits” from which affiliated sites benefits. The reason is that affiliated sites share business and therefore share the “hits” that are accumulated at any of the circle’s participating sites. This notion is also reinforced through what is appropriately called redirection. No matter which pop-up ad is clicked, the surfer is instantly taken back to the home site through which all the other sites are affiliated, once again ensuring that the main or central site collects more “hits” than it normally would with just one pop-up ad.

As annoyingly persistent as the pop-up ad tends to be, it does it’s job efficiently by merely opening up on a “trigger” or pre-programmed time schedule. Either way, just launching, it guarantees its success.
