When it comes to wooden hot tubs, redwood is in the Cedar family and is one of the best woods that can be used. This is precisely why traditional wooden hot tubs have always been made from redwood or Cedar. Redwood hot tubs are widely popular, and if you're buying a wood tub, this is the material that I'd suggest you use. While it will be more pricey than tubs made from other materials, it will be worth it, because it will last for a long time. When you purchase this type of tub, it is very important to buy a tub that comes with good assembly instructions.

I can be very frustrating to purchase a hot tub that comes with poor instructions, or no instructions at all. If you're having the tub shipped to you, you will want to use a company that has attractive shipping rates. With a good instruction guide, you should be able to put together a tub in no more than two hours. If you're installing a complete system, it may take you a bit longer. Most Redwood hot tubs will have a diameter of between 5' and 6.' There are some companies which sell smaller tubs, but even the smallest tubs should be able to support at least two people. Many of these hot tubs will have an oval like shape.

When it comes to height, the typical wooden tub will stand at about 49.75 inches, and the depth within the tub will typically be about 42.5 inches. There are a number of companies on the market that can custom build you a wooden hot tub, and it can be built in virtually any size you want. When it comes to the actual construction of the tubs, they will often be built from a vertical piece of Redwood, and this may be 2 x 6. Both the staves and the bottom of the tub will be quite thick, and this thickness is important, as it will add to the lifespan of the wood, and it will stop the wood from becoming warped in the future.

Another important aspect of wood thickness is the insulation. When the wood has higher layers of thickness, it will have at least twice the insulation of wood that is very thin. Even if it costs you extra, you will want to purchase tubs that have thick wood bottoms, as it will save you money on the cost of energy. Most wood tubs will also feature steel bands, and polyethylene cover will be placed on them which keeps steel from rusting. Wooden tubs will vary widely in price, and the cost of the tub will be dependent on its size.

General prices for wooden tubs will range from $1400 for one with a 3' width to $3,200 for a tub that is 7'. Tubs of these size can cost as much as $4,000, and the height will also play a role in the cost. While wooden tubs can be made from a number of different materials, Redwood is considered to be the best.
