In regular parlance, advertisement means anything that markets your product. It is something that attempts to boost your business. Advertisement may be anything, ranging from a radio spot to a message in a brochure. Generally, advertising means a commercial message that appears on the television, newspaper or magazine.

Given below are some of the major advertising media:

• Newspaper is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to reach out to a number of people simultaneously. If you want a lot of impact and at the same time at a low cost, then newspapers are very good for you. However, there is a flipside and that is the problem of your advertisement getting lost amidst numerous others that are published.

• An advertisement in a magazine is more expensive but they have a better effect than a newspaper ad. You can choose a specific type of magazine to match the content of your advertisement as well.

• The radio is another excellent advertising media. You can reach out to your target audience quite easily through the radio. However, the ads in the radio cost much more than the ones in a newspaper or a magazine.

• The television is by far the most appealing of all media when it comes to advertising. However, with the effectiveness comes the cost which is very high. But for specific areas, the ads have to be aired on the local cable channels which are slightly cheaper.

• The Yellow Pages is yet another great space for advertisement. These ads are expensive but they cater to specific target readers most of whom are buyers or prospective buyers.

• The outdoor advertisements like billboards and transit ads are a great way as well but ideally they should be used with other means of advertisement for maximum impact.

• The internet, as always, offers great prospects. You can get the hang of a lot of things like click rates through helpful tools like the Google Adsense.

In order to choose the right media for your advertisement, you need to analyze your target audience and your market. Getting a thorough knowledge of the competition is also very crucial. In your advertisement, you should always focus on the unique features of your product and give the reasons why the viewer will buy the product.

In order to get your message across to the viewer, you need to show him your advertisement repeatedly. The viewer will remember your product only when he is repeatedly exposed to your advertisement.

However, you need to manage your money well in order to do clever advertisement. If using many media is out of your budget, then try to make a positive impact on a single media. You can be better off by having a good impact through one media rather than not have an impact by using many!

Try to be very creative and think out of the box in order to make good advertisements. Always make your ads having the target audience in mind. They are the most important factors in your business. Try to integrate your advertising with other aspects of your business. The public relations, trade shows and the newsletters have to be used in tandem with the advertisements in order to make your campaign successful.
