There is no “I” in the word “teamwork.”

Of course not. Teamwork involves a group of individuals coming together to share ideas and solve problems. In the corporate world, teamwork is a necessary - even crucial - part of everyday operations. A well oiled team working together like a flock of birds wheeling in the sky makes a company indispensable. What happens many times, though, is that corporations run low on finding creative and intuitive ways to help promote teamwork among colleagues.

Teamwork exercises should not always follow strict guidelines and nauseating rules. Instead, make these practices fun and challenging for your employees. Who said creativity had to follow a specific outline? By finding interesting teambuilding exercises for employees, corporate leaders enhance the level of inspiration and ingenuity achieved by fellow comrades.

But why put so much emphasis on teambuilding exercises? What purpose do these pseudo-games offer to a business’ success?

The answer is plenty! Teambuilding exercise help to develop communication skills while also creating a sense of camaraderie and kinship between individuals in a group. These mind-building exercises also promote higher levels of motivation among employees, while possibly livening up the mind-numbing and monotonous atmosphere of a conference or everyday business meeting.

When can you use teambuilding exercises? Here are just a few suggestions to try:

• As icebreakers for meetings
• As part of a new-employee recruitment process
• As part of a brainstorming session
• During conferences and seminars
• As part of small-group meetings

When implementing teambuilding exercises, incorporate the opinions and suggestions of those participating. Many times, exercises can be created on the whim of a few good ideas. This is especially true if employees have certain skills or hobbies that can be used as part of the exercise. And because no one wants to waste time performing menial tasks, teambuilding exercises should also emphasize learning and improving the potential of employees.

Time is another important consideration when implementing teambuilding exercises. It is not always beneficial or feasible to employees or a corporation to waste precious time and money by spending an entire day on teambuilding activities. Finding out what is necessary to help a corporation grow and prosper eliminates superfluous teambuilding activities.

If you are ready to rejuvenate your business through teambuilding exercises, here are a few suggestions you may want to try:

• Building dollhouses (and yes, men can attempt this exercise too)
• Building bicycles
• Hold a scavenger hunt around the office or other location
• Create scenarios for employees to act out

What is great about deciding upon the right exercise is that many of the products created, such as bicycles and dollhouses, can be used as donations to charities and not-for-profit organizations. Not only can teambuilding skills be enhanced, but employees can help benefit the community too.

Climbing up the corporate ladder means finding ways to make personalities of various sorts fuse together in a cohesive manner. By using teambuilding exercises, employees can successfully learn indispensable skills needed to create a positive and productive work environment.
