No hot tub is complete without the motor and pump that make it run and work the way it does. These are the parts that help make these hot tubs different from your ordinary tubs or pools of water that don't give you that stress relieving and relaxing soak that hot tubs and spas give you. The choices in motors and pumps that you can use in your hot tubs and spas may be those that have been built into them or those that are actually replacement pumps for your hot tubs and spas.

Why Its Important to Know Motors and Pumps

While you can choose your spa or hot tub according to its motor as well, there are times when the tub you choose doesn't have the kind of pump or motor you want but the shape and size you desire. You can actually install a different pump or motor to your existing tub as long as you know the steps involved. There are a few different kinds of motors and pumps you can use to replace your existing hot tub or spa pump with and knowing the parts of these motors and pumps will further help you understand how it works and how to successfully replace or install them.

Common Motor and Pump Parts

The parts that you can find on tubs and their mechanisms include the wet ends, the motors, seals, impellers and a whole lot more. All these parts are important to the successful activation of your hot tub or spa. The pump wet end is the mechanism that is found at the end of your water pump and on this pump is where you find the impeller that sucks the water from the water source and pushes it into the tub with the force needed to create the jets that are for relaxation. A shaft seal is the seal that is used to help keep the water from going into the motor that keeps the pump going and your hot tub or spa running the way it should. There are a few seal kits available on the market and each seal kit and shaft seal is built to fit certain pump specifications to truly keep water out of the motor of your spa or hot tub. If you need to replace your spa's shaft seal, you will need to know what your exact spa motor or pump is for you to be able to get the right one that will fit it and stop any leaks.

When Do You Need to Replace Them

A lot of people who have older tubs that have motors that are weaker than their present day counterparts often buy newer and stronger motors to replace the ones that they already have. This is usually when the tub they have is still in good working condition and in pretty good shape. If both the tub and the pump are in bad shape, it would probably be best if they got a newer model spa that comes with a new motor and pump rather than to simply buy a new motor for a rather beat up old spa or hot tub.

DIY Motors and Pumps

For those who are fond of building things from scratch or love doing DIY projects, they can actually find instructions on certain websites on the construction of such tubs as well as the installation of the pumps, motors, hoses and other necessary parts needed for the operation of the hot tubs. You can also find a wide array of pump motors for your spa at spa spare part websites in the different spa pump hp selections that you can choose from. Some of the pump motors that you can find include the .75 hp pump motors, the 1.0 and 1.5 hp pump motors and the bigger 2.0 hp pump motors. These pump motors can be bought in a wide array of motor brands and prices.

While you can actually replace your spa pump motor on your own with the use of a few easy steps that includes the replacement of the impeller as well and the removal of the wet end from the other motor parts, you can be better off with buying a completely new set that can last you longer that a self rebuilt pump motor.
